PLEASE BE FLEXIBLE RACE MORNING AND ALLOW FOR SOME
DIFFERENCES FROM YEARS PAST
|
"Oh
the weather outside is frightful..." Cannot
get that song out of my head today! This makes 3 years in a row
Mother Nature has caused some heartburn for Trekman days before the
Snow Shuffle. The last two years we had lots of ice that was
thankfully covered in snow right before the race.
The Park
Ranger and I spoke an hour ago and she assures me plowing will be
done for the road and for the parking lots. George Wyth
rangers are very good to us!
Updates are
included below, please familiarize yourself with them and know
that along with my Race Crew everything possible will be done to
provide you with a quality December event. No doubt there will be
some adjustments to make!
Every
year more and more people dress up as Santa, and elf or
reindeer. You are ENCOURAGED to find a hat or costume and
join the frivolity.
As of
this newsletter there are 204 people signed up.
Bundle up
and see you Saturday! Any weather event that would affect the
race will be addressed on my website race morning.

ENTRIES
Click on the snowman and
check out who is regsitered and make sure I have your name
and age right.
|
|
PARKING
There is only one park
entrance and you will drive 3 miles to the back of the park.
Plese obey the speed limit and allow for extra time with road conditons
and the slow limit.
The parking lots will be
plowed as good as they can be, however it is anticipated there will be
snow to contend with. Please be mindful of space and follow the
parking lot volunteers and do not make your own spaces.
|
|
REGISTRATION
There will NOT
be any Friday packet pick up or late registration. Saturday
morning volunteers will be ready for you at 7:30, please come
early. If you come at 8:45 you will likely cause issues,
especially if you are with someone who plans to sign up that
morning. Race etiquette is to come at least 45 minutes
early.
Registration
should be in the large tent usually seen at Trekman events, however if
there is no tent it will be in the lodge.
|
|
PRE AND POST RACE ACCOMMODATIONS
In years past we have been
able to use snow blowers to clear the grassy area the tents are erected
on, however this year I am not certain how that will work. The
tent company I rent one of the tents from is not comfortable letting a
tent go in this weather so even if we are able to clear the area
we may only have one tent versus the two we have connected the last
couple years. This will make space crowded. Please stand
clear of the tent entrance and of the left side since packet pick up
will be on that side in the back of the tent.
The lodge will be open
and heated so check out space in there.
LP heaters will be used to
take the chill out of the spaces, and they are a dangerous hazard if
you get too close. Please be aware of them and do not place
gloves on them as some people have found out, they melt very quickly.
|
|
COURSE
The only thing I know is there
will be snow! I have no way of checking what the trails are like
since I live 30 minutes away and driving is not exactly recommended
today. There is a great chance it will be altered to be a
distance less than 3.1 miles if it is deep snow, and it is also
possible the park road will be used. Please understand the
decisions will be made with everyone's best interest and safety in
mind. Plan on a fun run and not a 5K race.

|
SHIRTS
The shirt guarantee has come
and gone and some people may not get a shirt. There
are usually a number of people who do not come to the race and
their shirts are held until after the race. If you did not
get a shirt you may check in at the registration table post-race and
see if one in your size is available.

SANTA AND HIS HELPER ELF
Yes, Santa and his lovely
assistant will be here again this year to hand out a gift to those who
are not on the naughty list! He will be outside walking around so
you will have to find him. Fairly recognizable fella, round belly
and a cool red suit. Gifts are limited so make sure and find him
early. Gifts include chocolate bars with a discount coupon for
races, white runners gloves and a limited amount of calf length wool
Fox River running socks.
|
|
FREE COFFEE
There will be coffee
available in limited quantities before and after the race. Hot
water and cocoa mix will be available post race, as well.
|
|

as a fundraiser for the Salvation Army. To be eligible for door
