What is a
better way to start a wedding day than with a group run? Suzy and
I invite anyone who would like to share in a fun paced run to our place
at 2004 Park Drive, right next to Lookout Park, in Cedar Falls.
We will leave at 8:00 AM, come anytime after 7:30. Just park on
the side road in the park and we will leave from our driveway to the
trails in George Wyth for a 3 to 6 mile run. Bagels, coffee and
juice to be provided post run! Email me @ trekman@mchsi.com if
you would like to join us so we can have enough post race goodies for
everyone!

PARK TO
PARK CAP
To
accomodate growth and insure a high quality event the races are being
caped at 1,000 this year. If growth continues the way it has
hitting that cap is likely to happen. As of this newsletter the
race is almost 20% full.

Greetings!
The roads and trails are now full
of people moving. There is no
shortage of walkers, runners and bikers at seemingly all hours of the
day anymore. It is great to see
people out and enjoying Spring, instead of treadmills!
The Fools 5k kicked things off in
March with a new record finishing crowd of 443, growth of 16% over
last year's race. Scott Gall
turned in a fantastic 15:35 to win, and there were 21 finishers under
20 minutes. The course is USATF
certified and the finishing times make it the most competitive race in
the area.
A couple great events followed
Fools; St. Patrick Shamrock Shuffle, George Wyth Mud Run and Run Like a
Mother. Results for each are
available by clicking on the results link in this newsletter.
Hopefully all of you are doing
well with your running/walking goals, as well as the goals many have of
weight loss and better living.
If you have training questions check out the free clinic being
put on in conjunction with Runner's Flat owner Scott Gall in June.
In less than one week another
chapter of life opens up as I am getting married in my backyard. Suzy loves running and the race
scene, and will be a fixture at Trekman events. I'm a very fortunate guy and excited
for the 22nd to roll around!
Want to share in a run with us?
See below for details.
Take care and hope to see you at
a race soon!

of sweat wicking and fast drying hats are available until they run
out. Online sign ups can
purchase the hat when signing up, paper entry form folks will have to

The need to make sure enough were on hand is why they are not
being included on the paper entry form.

at a higher price at packet pick-up.
The back of the hat has "10th Anniversary"
stitched on the adjustment strap.

TRAINING
GROUP
"If we were
told that we could run only one marathon in our lifetime, Big Sur would
have to be it." Bart Yasso,
Runner's World
Trekman
training groups have focused on Midwest marathons, but requests have
been for a destination marathon, and one has been chosen! May 1,
2011, is the date of the next Big Sur Marathon events. There are
actually 5 race distances starting at 3.1 miles at this race, so you do
not have to do 26.2 if you would rather simply experience the area and
going with a group.
Training
will not start for some time, but since this is a major trip I wanted
to give people plenty of time to make plans. More information
will be coming, but I'd like to get an idea of how many people are
interested. Right now there are several people committed to a
group training experience.
Group
members get a schedule tailored to goals and fitness level, weekly
emails with training advice, injury prevention tips and
encouragement. Weekly long runs are scheduled and with them come
fluids and food. In addition there will be multiple social opportunities
that always involve food and drink! The best part is friends are
made and laughs are abundant. Things good marathon training can
always benefit from! Oh, and everyone signing up gets a discount
at the Runner's Flat.

RACE DATE IS JULY 10
This unique race has become a classic multi-sport event
and gets some of the best athletes in the area to come and
participate.
Don't let the "pump" scare you, nobody has to
lift and after the 5k everyone gets to enjoy free pancakes from Chris
Cakes, the folks who will flip your food with a smile and a joke.
Those who want to lift will get 15 seconds off their
5k time for each bench press repetition. Age and gender are taken
into consideration, all the guidelines can be found on the Trekman
Racing website, Pump & Run page.
Click on the logo above to register at active.com.
There are special family prices for those who sign up online
only. A paper form will be online for download very soon!
1st
Kandahar, Afganistan, Pump & Run to be held in June
Previous Hudson P&R participant and Army soldier,
Rick Finger, is putting on a Pump & Run for fellow soldiers many
miles away. Rick was inspired by the Hudson event and I am proud
to have answered some emails to help Rick make this event happen so far
away. If you want to send Rick well wishes for his event you can send
to: ricki.finger@AFGHAN.SWA.ARMY.MIL

TREKMAN ON
FACEBOOK!
Okay, not
yet... those who know me know I am holding out to be the last
person on Earth without a Facebook page. However, if good friend
and Trekman Race Crew member Greg Herrold ever decides to really train
for and make Boston I promise I will get a page. This is
"the Gauntlet!"

Whatever your running or walking goals are, I wish you
the best. If you should have an idea or suggestion on how to make
running in the Cedar Valley better, please send me an email. I
respond to everyone who sends me a message and have implemented more
than one idea from a runner.
